Desarae Skidmore

Desarae Skidmore is certified as an Iyengar Yoga teacher through the Iyengar National Association of the United States (IYNAUS). She has been studying and practicing yoga in the Iyengar tradition since 2013; she credits her first teacher, and inveterate yogi, Mark Watson with starting her on the path.

Since then, she has studied with several Senior-level Iyengar Yoga teachers including, Kristin Chirhart, Mary Obendorfer, Eddy Marks, Aleric Newcombe and, most notably, Laurie Blakeney. Laurie served as mentor to Desarae throughout her Iyengar teacher training process and has, without question, shaped her practice and teaching most profoundly.

Additionally, in 2016, Desarae attended the triennial National Iyengar Yoga Convention in Boca Raton, Florida studying under Abhijata Sridhar, the granddaughter of B.K.S. Iyengar.

“My first tentative steps onto the mat afforded me glimpses, of a mental poise and equanimity heretofore lacking in my life. Continuing the practice of yoga has served as a mooring through the many tribulations I’ve experienced in my life. As such, I will always be a student of yoga and, I am deeply grateful for the wisdom my teachers have shared with me.”

“I thrive on the precision and discipline inherent in this method. It is my endeavor as a teacher to share my passion for Iyengar Yoga by creating classes which balance intensive work within the asanas with the ultimate aim – to restore the balance between the constant pull of the external world and our own, oftentimes neglected, individual souls. In my classes, expect to be challenged to break free from your physical and mental patterning – to think of asana and, by extension, of yourself, in a new way.”

“It truly is my great honor and pleasure to share the teachings of yoga with each of my students.
